Graduate Collection: Work in Progress
Counting The Minutes is a four look collection exploring the mundane corporate routine and the psychology behind feeling stuck in a job. It portrays feelings of conformity, lack of freedom, feeling stagnant, an endless cycle of routine, and ideas around the professional personality. This concept and colour palette is inspired by Francis Bacon’s Businessman series as well as the concept of Utopia which is described by SCOUT Trend Forecast as Brutalist, modern, individual and functional. An example of this contrasting style in interior design is concrete and greenery. These attributes have been applied to this collection by incorporating sharp shapes, bold silhouettes, grey suiting with areas of brightness, deconstructing modern workwear, and using typical office supplies like paper and staples to create unique textiles. This also inspired the folded origami-like details, paper planes, boats, and chains as accessories symbolise taking something mundane to create something fun and ultimately unprofessional.
